About Me
I'm a third year student at the University of Denver where I majored in English: Literary Studies and Spanish with a minor in Writing Practices in hopes of spending a good chunk of my time loving on language. I write both poetry and prose and am a prose intern at the Denver Quarterly. I am currently co-president of the Honors Book Group at DU, and Artistic Director for an undergraduate literary and visual arts magazine. My poetry is forthcoming in Rainy Day Literary Magazine.
About This Portfolio
This portfolio is a capstone project for the writing practices minor at DU. It is primarily a showcase portfolio featuring a curated selection of work and centered around content which represents dedication to diversity, awareness, and design in writing and presentation. It was made over the course of a Writ 3500 capstone course (Spring of 2020) and the pieces included were taken from a variety of courses completed as a part of the writing practices minor at the University of Denver and abroad. I would like to thank my professors and classmates at DU for their instruction and feedback and for the opportunity to begin to see myself as someone who might one day fancy themselves a proper writer!
About My Writing: Reflection
While taking part in the Writ 3500 capstone course for the writing minor at DU, I was asked to complete several exercises which allowed me to better come to understand myself and my writing. The reflection presented here was one of these, a reflection in two parts -- a mind map and a written reflection -- which presents insight into both conscious and unconscious aspects of my creative process by looking closely at two pieces of my writing. The first, "The City Series", in an unfinished series of snapshots written in poetic prose and the second, "Notions of a Nation: The Narrative Evolution of Racialized American Identities", is a research paper written as a final project for an Advanced Seminar at DU.
